Online Ordering VS Personal Consultations: Should I order my invitations online?

Q. There are so many places online to order invitations, but it seems confusing and you can't really 'see' the invitation clearly. I noticed that you have a link to view invitations, but I'm not able to order them online. Is there a reason why you don't offer online ordering?

A. That is a great question...one that we are asked on a regular basis. Even though we could improve sales by offering online ordering, we choose not to. There are many reasons why. First, we firmly believe that you should actually see the invitation in person. This is vitally important because you need to make sure it is exactly the invitation you want. Second, even if you are able to view invitations online, you should feel the invitation. The paper quality and texture varies from invitation to invitation. Finally, your invitation is going to be with you for a very long time....it will be among your most precious keepsakes, in your photo album and in your memories. You want to make sure of what you are purchasing.

When you book a free consultation with us, you will receive FREE one-on-one personal attention. We are skilled in wedding etiquette and are focused on providing excellent customer care. We will do all of the paper work for you so that you don't have to 'figure out' how to order your wedding stationery. Let us do the work and make your invitation purchase a relaxing and exciting experience!

Invitations: When Should I Send My Wedding Invitations?

Q. When should I send my invitations? What date should I ask my guests to respond by on the RSVP card?

A. Ideally, invitations should go out eight weeks before the wedding -- this gives your guests enough time to clear their schedules for your wedding date. Sending your invitations eight weeks before the wedding also allows you to make the RSVP date earlier (about three weeks before the wedding) so you can get a final head count and start making a seating chart (if you'll have one) before the week-before-the-wedding crunch begins.

At the very latest, you should send invitations six weeks before your wedding and you should receive responses two weeks before the big day.

Addressing Invitations: How do I address the inner and outer envelopes?

Q. I need help addressing my invitations. I don't know what to put on the inner and outer envelopes. I need HELP!

A. Not to worry. Keep a sample inner envelope and sample outer envelope close by so that you can be reminded of how to address the envelopes. Once you do a few you will get a system down. Feel free to print this page as a reference. Email us if you have more addressing questions.

Outer Envelopes
Use full names and formal titles. Do not abbreviate. (Except for Mr., Mrs., Ms., Jr.)
Example:    Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Smith

Do not use symbols. Spell out the word “and.”

Do not use initials. Spell out names.

Do not write “and family” if children are to be included in the invitation. (See “Inner Envelopes.”)

Use figures only when writing house numbers and zip codes.
Example:    215 North Fifth Street

Write out the words “Street,” “Boulevard,” “Avenue,” etc.

Do not abbreviate city or state names.
Example:     Las Vegas, Nevada

Inner Envelopes
Exclude the first names of the recipients.
Example:    Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Write the first names of children to be invited below the parents’ names
in the order of age.
Example:   Mr. and Mrs. Smith
        Jake, Christine and Kylie

Children over the age of 18 should receive their own invitation. Strict etiquette calls for children over 16 to receive their own.

Omit children’s names if you are planning an adults-only celebration.

If an invitation to a single guest extends to an unknown escort, address the inner envelope with your friend’s name followed by “and Guest”
Example:    Ms. Layton and Guest

Do not use recipient’s address on the inner envelope.

Save-the-Date Cards: When Should I Send Save-the-Date Cards?

Q. I am inviting 150 guests to my wedding. Most of them are local, but about 20% are from out of town. Should I send Save-the-Date cards to all of my guests or just the out-of-towners?

A. Definitely send your out-of-town guests Save-the-Date cards. They should be sent 4 - 6 months before the wedding. This will allow your guests ample time to make travel arrangements. There's no reason to send Save-the-Date cards to in-town guests, unless you see it is needed. For example, if you know of in-town guests who travel often or if their schedules are very hectic, then you may want to send them Save-the-Date cards as well.

Guests who do not RSVP
How do I respond to guests who show up that didn't RSVP?

Q. What is the proper way to handle a possible situation such as this...

No RSVP has been received.  The confirmed guests have been designated a seat
at a particular table and meals have been ordered from the caterer for them.
The individuals who did NOT RSVP appear at the door.  There is no
provision for them to be seated and no meal ordered for them.

How do we politely say "Sorry", but we cannot invite you in?

A. The best way to handle this situation is to contact all of your guests that did not RSVP before the wedding. When contacted, a suggestion of what to say is, "Hi ______, we are putting together our headcount for the reception and were hoping you could make it. We just need to double check with you because we haven't received a respond yet."

If you are unable to receive feedback from your guest, it would be fine to leave a message on their voicemail stating that because you haven't heard back from them you are assuming they are unable to attend and you will not be reserving a seat for them.

Also, most reception halls will be prepared to serve a few more guests than accounted for just in case some still show up that didn't respond. Double check with your caterer that this will be done.
